Manchester Voted the 3rd Best City in the World

The city of Manchester has been voted as the 3rd best city in the World.

In a recent poll by Time Out, 27,000 city-dwellers were asked to rank the best cities in the World. The survey quizzed city-dwellers on food and culture, but also delved in to community projects, green space and sustainability to identify those cities that had a long-term plan, ensuring that they remain vibrant, sustainable and attractive for its residents and businesses not just now, but also in the future.

San Francisco came in first place. The city is renowned for its parklets, using parking spaces for amenities that extend out from the pavement, making the city feel like one giant street party. The city was also commended for its community spirit during the pandemic, with initiatives such as the SF New Deal using out-of-work restaurant employees to make meals for those in need. It ranked in first place for its progressive politics and second for sustainability.

Amsterdam came in second place. The city pivoted during the pandemic, turning its focus towards the city’s history, beauty and community spirit. It was also amongst the highest ranked for its green credentials and sustainability.

Manchester took third place. Despite the recent challenges, the city has absolutely thrived. 71% of those surveyed described the city as creative and is world renowned for its music, culture and festivals, including the Manchester International Festival and Grayson’s Art Club. The Factory is due to open as the permanent home for the Manchester International Festival, bringing world-class art and performance to Manchester all year round.

The city of Manchester has a reputation for knowing how to have a good time, voted as the top city for its nightlife, creativity, community spirit, friendliness and getting to know your neighbours.

Mancunians are very proud people with a great sense of community, which has seen them through the pandemic. During the pandemic, companies such as Result CIC provided free mental health support to frontline workers and the Eagle and Child pub gave away 4,500 meals to vulnerable locals, a true testament of the Mancunian spirit.
